Current Positions Available:

Optician

An Optician, or Dispensing Optician, is responsible for helping customers achieve the right type of eyeglasses and contact lenses. They dispense and repair glasses. They are a key part of a team of eye care professionals. Opticians need to have a thorough understanding of the different types of optical aids available, and their duties usually include:

  • Interpreting the results of eye examinations, using prescriptions written by optometrists
  • Advising patients on frame weights, materials, styles and colors
  • Recommending lenses, coatings and frames to suit customers’ needs
  • Measuring customers to determine suitable types and styles of frames
  • Determining suitable types and styles of frames
  • Adjusting frames so they fit properly
  • Preparing orders for glasses and contact lenses by checking prescriptions, lens thickness and other specifications
  • Making sure that orders for glasses and contact lenses have been processed accurately
  • Maintain the optical boutique and lab in an organized and clean fashion
  • Assist with optical repairs of glasses
  • Strong willingness to continue to learn in the field of optometry
  • Assist patients with scheduling appointments via in-person and on the phone

Optician Requirements and Qualifications

  • Desire to serve others by listening and responding to needs and concerns
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in an optometry environment (preferred) but not required
  • Ability to provide superb customer service to every patient, whether in person, over the phone, or in emails/electronic communications
  • Ability to work independently with multiple tasks and shifting priorities while maintaining close attention to detail
  • Knowledge of electronic health records and insurance
